Pilot project: Agent-based modeling of epidemics
The aim of the project is the development of a simulation software for the modelling of epidemics of different pathogens based on the concept of agent-based social simulation. An influenza outbreak serves as an example. In the software, particular emphasis is placed on user-friendliness, flexible applicability, realistic social contexts, and reusability of already simulated models by providing a central database.
The final product is a freely accessible and directly usable tool for the investigation of essential questions in zoonosis research, which is made available to all members of the zoonosis platform free of charge. With the software it will be possible to investigate factors influencing the transmissibility of zoonotic pathogens, to predict the epidemic potential of pathogens and to develop strategies to contain an epidemic.
